SOPHIA HARMS-VAN ESTRIK, from Art Gallery SOPHIA

Born in Rotterdam (1947) From her youth Sophia was fascinated by sculpture. In her early life Sophia's priority was her business career, but from the age of 45 she began to actively pursue her love of sculpture working in bronze, marble, clay and stone.

Sophia's technical expertise developed through study at the following educational schools and academies: 1995-2004 Gooische Academie in Laren (Jos van Oosterhout). 1999-summer The Florence Academy of Art in Italy (Robert Bodem). 2000-summer L'école de Beaux Arts in Paris (P.E.Genier). 2001- and 2003-summer European Art-Academy in Trier (Peter Rübsam)

The techniques Sophia uses are: lost wax methods and carving in marble and stone. As well as sculpting creatively Sophia creates commissions to order. Currently Sophia has created various commissions which vary from photographic representations, sculpting car mascots, to creating sculpted company logos.
